One of the most important aspects of this assignment was photographing Elan’s extensive collection of amenities. I wanted each photograph to communicate why these spaces are important to the resident experience.
When I photograph amenities, I look for compositions that show both the overall environment and the details that make a particular space appealing. A wide photograph can establish the size and layout of a pool area or fitness center, while a more focused composition can highlight architectural details, furnishings, finishes, or landscaping.

I believe effective residential real estate photography should communicate lifestyle as well as physical space. A prospective resident is not simply deciding whether an apartment has enough square footage. They are also considering whether the community feels comfortable, convenient, attractive, and appropriate for their daily life.
For Elan, I wanted the photographs to communicate that broader experience. I photographed the amenities as places where residents can exercise, relax, socialize, and spend time outside their individual apartments.
