As a Bay Area freelance real estate photographer, I’m regularly hired to document high-quality residential and commercial properties throughout the Bay Area. Each assignment brings its own architectural character and marketing goals, and in early February I had the opportunity to photograph a distinctive commercial office space at 811 Broadway, located in the heart of historic Old Oakland.
This property stands out for its thoughtful balance of history and modern design. Elements of the original brickwork remain exposed throughout the space, providing texture, warmth, and a clear connection to Oakland’s architectural past. These historic details are seamlessly integrated with modern amenities and an open office environment, creating a workspace that feels both authentic and contemporary—an increasingly desirable combination in today’s commercial real estate market.
From a commercial real estate photography perspective, capturing this contrast was central to the shoot. Careful composition and lighting were used to emphasize the brick surfaces while maintaining clean, accurate color and perspective across open work areas. The goal was to create images that clearly communicate how the space functions while also highlighting the character that sets it apart from more generic office interiors.
The open layout allows for flexibility, collaboration, and natural light, all of which were key features to showcase in the photography. Wide, well-balanced images help prospective tenants visualize how the space can adapt to a variety of business needs, from creative firms to professional services.
Location is another major advantage of 811 Broadway, and one that plays an important role in marketing the property. Situated in Old Oakland, the building offers convenient access to BART and nearby freeways, making it an attractive option for commuters throughout the East Bay and greater Bay Area. Proximity to transit and major transportation routes is a critical factor for many tenants, and professional imagery helps reinforce that accessibility within leasing materials.
Projects like this highlight the value of working with an experienced Bay Area commercial real estate photographer who understands both architectural detail and the broader marketing context. High-quality photography not only documents a space—it helps tell a story about history, design, and location that resonates with brokers, property managers, and prospective tenants alike.
